Hello AFC Families,

We hope you and your soccer players are well and in good spirits, despite these complicated times.

On April 22, 2020 NorCal Board of Directors sent a message to its members officially cancelling all remaining NorCal 2019/2020 competitions. This includes Spring Leagues, State Cup, and State Premier Leagues.

Given these developments, we want to update our families with important announcements about our Spring Season, tryouts, and our club. Please see a recap and details below.

  • 2020 Spring Season
  • Is unfortunately canceled
  • To help support our professional coaches, the club, and local soccer, the AFC Board voted to not refund lost Spring fees.
  • 2020/21 Tryouts & Team Formation
  • Our goal is to place all returning AFC Players on a 2020/2021 team -- we want kids to play soccer
  • We will share tryout & team formation plan, and 2020/21 player fees in early May (pending regional SIP)

Please keep reading to learn more.

Our Spring season has unfortunately been canceled

With regional SIP orders in place (pending extension), local school closures, and the latest NorCal decision, the Spring 2020 season has been cancelled. NorCal is expected to share details regarding a potential Summer league for teams who may be interested to play. But we, like other local clubs, likely won't have access to fields for practice or games until our schools reopen, and that timeline is currently unclear. The AFC Board is disappointed to see the spring season cancelled.

Tryouts & Team Formation

Our focus now is 2020/21 tryouts & team formation, and getting our players & teams back on the field as soon and -- as safely -- as possible. We won’t be able to set our 2020/21 plan until we know more about regional SIP orders and NorCal guidelines. As these unfold, we will look for opportunities to schedule 2020/21 placement days. Concurrently, we are also planning for how to form teams if we are unable to hold traditional tryouts. Regardless of our placement process, our goal is to offer all returning 2019/20 players a spot on a 2020/21 roster. We will share more about 2020/21 tryouts & team formation in early May.

In order for AFC to plan for tryouts and next season, we would like for you to register for tryouts now. Registration is free, and knowing our numbers by age group will be key to planning for next season in terms of teams, coaches, and facilities. Please use this link to register for AFC tryouts: https://associationfootballclub.sportngin.com/register/form/308462172

Lastly, we want to address the financials of the abbreviated Spring season.

Protecting the future of our club and taking care of our coaches during these traumatic times is our top priority. In this context, the Board reviewed the club’s financial situation and determined that we cannot offer refunds for the shortened Spring Season. Appreciating that this is a difficult situation, we believe this is in the best interest of the club and our families.

Thanks to our coaches and our community who continue to ramp up their at-home training curriculum. It’s been great to see the response to the online live sessions and training drills.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Please let any of us know if you would like to discuss.

Club Status Update

Dear AFC family,

We hope this email finds you and your family healthy. It has been a challenging few weeks but we hope that you are settling into more of a routine knowing that we are doing our part to flatten the curve.

AFC would like to give you a few updates regarding Spring League and Tryouts.

Spring Season:

1) We are continuing to follow the lead of our local public health authorities and NorCal. Based on the most recent guidance, we are officially extending our suspension of AFC activities through May 3.

2) We are awaiting for NorCal's direction regarding our Spring season, Their decision will depend on the guidance of health authorities. We will update you as soon we get a decision from them.

Tryouts:

3) It is likely that our current competitive tryout schedule (early May) will be delayed. While we don't know the dates yet, we have opened up our tryout registration for the 2020-21 season so players can indicate their interest in participating next season.

Register now:  https://associationfootballclub.sportngin.com/register/form/308462172

Although we are unsure of what the next few months will look like, it is important that you register so that AFC can plan for the future.

Registration will help us gauge the number of teams, coaches and facilities need for next season and It allows us to communicate with you directly any changes to the current schedule, which is very possible given the circumstances.

Lastly, a huge thanks to 24/7 UK soccer Academy and their coaches who continue to ramp up their at-home training curriculum. There's been a fantastic response from the community to the online live sessions and training drills. They will continue to provide virtual programming to keep your kids healthy and active. If you have not joined a live session yet, please visit the 24/7Facebook page Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5pm catch a live workout.

Stay healthy,

AFC Board

March

Dear members,

In recent days, numerous public health agencies – including the CDCNIH and WHO – have issued strong advice to avoid person-to-person contact to the greatest extent possible. Gatherings of 10 or more people are now being discouraged.

Accordingly, US Club Soccer is joining with other youth members of the U.S. Soccer Federation (AYSO, SAY and USSSA) in immediately suspending all activities within our jurisdiction through April 12.

To be clear: this includes not only activities directly operated by US Club Soccer, but also those US Club Soccer-sanctioned and related activities operated by member organizations, such as league and tournament play, scrimmages, practices/training, tryouts, team travel, large group meetings and related off-field activities. AYSO, SAY and USSSA are also taking the same measures.

US Club Soccer is continually monitoring the situation and will rely on expert public health advice for when it is safe to resume soccer activities. There will be a subsequent Member Update before April 12 addressing the possibility of returning to play or extending this cessation.

In the meantime, please frequent usclubsoccer.org/coronavirus, which includes an FAQ section, as well as links to applicable information from the aforementioned health organizations.

Additionally, US Club Soccer is working with its Players First partners to develop and distribute resources for players and coaches to continue to improve on their own through virtual skills contests, Facebook Live sessions on a variety of topics, and more.

Please continue to take every precaution, and make decisions with public health in mind, as we aim to flatten the curve of this pandemic. Thank you for your attentiveness in this matter.

Soccer Updates - Monday 27th April

Dear AFC Players and Parents,

I hope that everyone is safe and healthy.

Firstly, I am sure that everyone received the communication from the club regarding the cancellation of the Spring season. We will continue providing our “at home” training and “live sessions” throughout May. Hopefully during May we will have some more clear direction regarding when we can start getting back on the field.

Secondly, we wanted to apologize for the cancellation of Friday’s Oakland Roots Live training session in Spanish. The Oakland Roots were hosting this session for us and there were some Zoom settings that we had asked them to make that were not in place. Due to these complications the remaining two Oakland Roots sessions that we had planned have been postponed. We will look to make these sessions, plus the Spanish session, in the near future. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please find below all of our At Home Training tasks for the upcoming week, as well as our live sessions.

If you missed the interview with Cal Bears alumni and Thailand Women’s National Team player, Miranda Nild last Wednesday, then you can watch the video here.

We have decided against sending follow up emails on Thursdays as we are conscious of not sending out too many emails. • Any players engaging in our online classroom sessions but not taking them seriously, devalue the sessions for others and will not be permitted to participate in future sessions

Photos & Videos:

We have set up a new email address for parents to send photos and videos to of which we use for our websites and social media.

Our current focus is building up an archive from all of our clubs of 'game footage' and more specifically build up play and team goals.

Soccer Updates - Thursday 19th March

Dear AFC Players and Parents,

We wanted to provide you with an update regarding how the situation with COVID-19 is impacting us and the wider soccer community across the country. As you are likely already aware, US Club Soccer is joining with other youth members of the U.S. Soccer Federation (AYSO, SAY and USSSA) in immediately suspending all activities within their jurisdiction through April 12. NorCal Soccer is a US Club sanctioned league so that will apply for all of our Spring league games.
